Twenty-five years ago, I met a most incredible young lady. We began writing. This is her story, in letter format, to me. Her captivating personality emerges. Letter writing was her easiest way of communicating. Five and a half years later, she died, and I found myself with a cardboard box filled with correspondence and a compelling story. My purpose was to help her. But, who really helped who? It’s been 21 years now and long past time for me to share my astounding young friend named Jordan. She said to me once: “Next time you’re swimming in a pool and it’s very quiet, go to the deep end, let go of the side, and float. Then, close your eyes. That’s what it feels like to be deaf and blind.” I tried it…and told her it was very scary. She agreed.
